TN: Cement factory employees' appeal

Ariyalur, Jul 15: The Ariyalur Cement Factory Employee's Association, affiliated to All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), today urged Tamil Nadu government to procure cement from the factory at the same cost it pays while procuring from the open market.

In a statement here, President of the association and AITUC district unit general secretary T. Dhandapani also wanted the government to modernise the machinery in the 30-year old factory, expand the factory and fill up the numerous vacancies.

He expressed concern over the state government's delay in providing each employee Rs.6,500 as per an agreement reached between the unions and cement factory owners on April 29, 2004.

He also urged immediate promotions, priority for family members of employees who had died in harness those whose land was acquired for establishing the factory while providing employment.
