UPA govt would get trust vote : Chennithala
Kochi, Jul 14 (UNI) Asserting that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government would prove its majority on the floor of Parliament, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Ramesh Chennithala today alleged that the CPI-M with the help of the BJP was hatching a 'conspiracy theory' to oust the Central Government.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr Chennithala said '' the Left parties, which supported the Congress to form a government to keep the BJP away from power, were now trying to strike an understanding with the saffron party to overthrow a secular government.'' The Left parties' move was against the people's trust and they were answerable to the masses, he said.
The CPI-M was indulging in 'horse trading' to get support from any party and yesterday's meeting by party General secretary Prakash Karat with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati and leaders of Telugu Desam Party were an indication of that, he said.
Mr Chennithala said these two parties had 'opportunistic ties' with the BJP and the CPI-M's effort was only to form a government with the BJP in future.
Terming CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat's move to include Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee's name in the letter to the President detailing withdrawal of support for the UPA Government as anti-constitutional, Mr Chennithala said '' as a Speaker he was above politics''.
The CPI-M was also 'backmailing' the Speaker to destabalise the UPA Government, he charged.
On the textbook row in the State, Mr Chennithala reiterated his stand that the Kerala should withdraw the controversial book and then come for talks with the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) Opposition in the State.
He said State Education Minister M A Baby was aware of the glaring mistakes in the textbook and was reluctant to withdraw the book due to 'ego problem.' Mr Chennithala said the party had appointed an expert committee under historian M G A Narayanan to study the textbook and the Kerala Curriculum Framework and the report would be submitted in one month's time.
