Surat 'masjid' presents architectural marvel
Surat, Jul 14 (UNI) The Kuwaiti Islam Masjid at Rander here is an unique architectural marvel, having been built upon a lone foundation pillar.
The builder of the 130-year-old masjid is unknown. But the story handed down the generations is that whosoever it was, he was dismembered so that the monument could not be replicated.
The lone foundation pillar supports 24 other pillars that hold a structure containing six rooms, three 50-foot minars, three staircases, three entrance ways and 50 windows.
The masjid is about 90 feet high, and has natural water springs under it. Zameer Mastar, one of the trustees of the masjid, said the pillar is so strong that no earthquake or flood had ever been able to cause it any damage.
Zameer Mastar said the masjid attracts top engineers from the country who come to study the structure.
