Speaker's post is constitutional: Somnath
New Delhi, Jul 14: Speaker Somnath Chatterjee it seems is well settled as the Lok Sabha speaker. Nothing can budge him, even Prakash Karat. According to latest reports, Somnath Chetterjee is all set to take on CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat. Sources have learnt that Somnath will not step down from his post for the trust vote.
Chatterjee"s name was given by Karat as one of the 44 MPs who were withdrawing support to the Government. But the Speaker made it clear that if he is forced to resign from his post, then he will give up his Lok Sabha membership as well. Earlier in the day, the Speaker met CPM patriarch Jyoti Basu in Kolkata and conveyed his misgivings about demands of his stepping down. Chatterjee has maintained so far that the Speaker"s post is a constitutional post, not allied to any party.
