Oppn stages walk out over text book issue
Thiruvananthapuram, July 14 (UNI) The entire Opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala today staged a walk out in the State Assembly demanding withdrawal of the controversial Social Science text book of seventh standard.
The Opposition staged a walk out when Speaker K Radhakrishnan refused admissibility of an adjournment motion sought to be moved by Mr V D Satheesan of the Congress.
Deputy Leader of the Opposition G Karthikeyan said there was no initiative on the part of the government side to end the six-day-old indefinite hunger stir launched by Youth Congress State President T Siddique in front of the State Secretariat to press the demand of text book withdrawal.
He said the government should end its fascist approach towards democratic mode of agitation by the Opposition.
Earlier, Education Minister M A Baby said the government had already appointed a committee to study the issues relating to the text book.
On the alleged irregularities in the appointments in the Kerala University, he said the case was now before the Lok Ayukta. The government would initiate stringent measures if there were any irregularities.
