Mask of Left's secularism exposed: Poojary
Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 14 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and party coordinator in Kerala Janardhan Poojary today said the mask of secularism of the Left parties has been exposed with their stand on the Nuclear deal issue.
''The Left were claiming that they stood for secularism and were fighting against the communal forces. The way in which they acted in the last few months has exposed them,'' he told reporters here.
Alleging that the Left wanted to join with the communal forces, particularly the BJP, he said this was evident from the way the Left parties were behaving for the last couple of months.
This was not a new thing for the Left. In 1979, they had supported the then Janata Party, which consisted of L K Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In 1989 also, the Left supported the then V P Singh government along with the BJP, he said.
Defending the nuclear deal, Mr Poojary said it was very clear from the Draft, which was placed before the IAEA, that it safeguarded the interests of the country and that the country's sovereignty was not compromised.
Even leading scientists and defence experts had made it clear that the nuke deal was in the interests of the nation.
