Local body in Kerala adopts resolution against text book
Malappuram, Kerala, Jul 14 (UNI) In defiance of government directives, a village panchayat in Malappuram district in Kerala today adopted a resolution to withdraw from school curriculum a portion of the controversial text book, which allegedly promoted anti-religious sentiments and glorified communist ideology.
The resolution was passed by the United Democratic Front-ruled Valancherry panchayat with 11-8 votes at a meeting of the village body amid demonstrations by activists of both UDF and LDF, favouring and opposing the resolution, at the office premises.
The CPI(M)-led LDF Government in the state had appointed a panel comprising eminent educationists to study the Class VII Social Science text book and submit its report, while the Opposition parties decided to intensify agitation demanding its withdrawal.
