Fishermen killing; DMK convenes meeting on July 17
Chennai, Jul 14 (UNI) An urgent meeting of the ruling DMK's High Level Policy Implementation Committee has been convened on July 17 to discuss steps to be taken to prevent killing of innocent fishermen from Tamil Nadu by the Sri Lankan Navy.
The meeting assumes significance as it was being held in the backdrop of killing of two fishermen hailing from Nagapttinam by the Lankan Navy two days back.
DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan, in a release said the meeting, to be chaired by Party President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, would discuss steps to be taken to prevent such incidents and to decide in what form the State should express its condemnation over such incidents.
The release said the meeting would suggest measures urging the Centre to take steps to bring an immediate halt to such type of attacks on Indian fishermen on the ground that they have crossed the International Maritime Boundary Line in the high seas.
All the DMK MPs and High Level committee members were directed to attend the meeting without fail, the release added.
