Pondy: Electricity Staff in Karaikal Region call of stir

Puducherry, Jul 14: Employees of the Electricity Department in Karaikal Region of the union territory, who were on a work-to-rule agitation for the last nine days, called off the agitation today following intervention by Leader of the Opposition and Karaikal DMK Convenor A M H Nazeem.

The agitation was to protest the failure of the administration to provide the ex-gratia for tsunami to the empoyees even after years had passed since the disaster struck.

Mr Nazeem today held talks with them and assured to find a settlment within ten days. If not, the DMK would take it as a party issue and lead the agitation from July 25.

Following this assurance, the employees called off their agitation.
