Customs, Excise collections up 11.5% in Q1 FY09
New Delhi, Jul 14 (UNI) The government today said it has collected 11.5 per cent more revenue from customs and excise duties at Rs 54,341 crore during the first quarter ended June 2008, against Rs 48,723 crore in the same period previous year.
Excise duty collections increased 2.8 per cent to Rs 25,882 crore for Q1 FY09, as compared to Rs Rs 25,183 crore in the same period previous fiscal. Collections under this head increased by 5.9 per cent to Rs 9,889 crore in June this year against Rs 9,335 crore in the same month last year.
Customs duty collections were up 20.9 per cent for the April-June quarter at Rs 28,459 crore against Rs 23,540 crore during the same quarter last fiscal.
Collections under this head grew by 13 per cent at Rs 9,236 crore in June this year from Rs 8,171 crore during June 2007.
Service tax collections for April-May this year increased by a whopping 33.6 per cent to Rs 9,774 crore, against Rs 7,314 crore during the corresponding period last year.
In May, the government earned Rs 3,653 crore from the service tax, registering a growth of 23.3 per cent over Rs 2963 crore collected in May 2007.
