Congress not against Telangana: Moily

Hyderabad, Jul 14 (UNI) Asserting that the Congress was not against the formation of separate Telangana, AICC General Secretary and in-charge of Andhra affairs M Veerappa Moily today said the party was sincerely trying for a consensus on the issue.

Addressing a press conference here along with PCC President D Srinivas, he said it was not in the hands of Congress as it had to take the support of the UPA partners.

The Congress party was actively trying for a consensus with its partners, he added.

''Had the Congress moved a bill in Parliament on creation of Telangana against the wishes of the Left parties, who opposed the formation of separate Telangana, the UPA would have faced the trust vote long back.'' The Congress had already made clear its stand on separate Telangana and its doors were still open, he added.

Asked about TRS President Chandrasekhara Rao's call to the Congress MPs belonging to the Telangana region to mount pressure on the UPA Government at the Centre, the PCC President said the party did not consider the call as important.

The TRS would be in a better position if it followed the Congress advice, he said.
