We will win trust vote: Jairam
Tiruchirapalli, July 13: Senior Congress Leader and Union Minister of State for Power Jairam Ramesh today hoped the Congress- led UPA Government will win the vote of confidence in the Lok Sabha on July 22.
Addressing the press here, the Minister said the Indo-US Civilian Nuclear Agreement will provide opportunties for India to gain international exposure in the field besides enabling scientists and technologists to participate in international conventions on nuclear power.
''We need uranium badly for our nuclear power generation.
Yesterday, the IGCAR (Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research) generated only 190 MW of nuclear power as against the installed capacity of 440 MW due to non-availality of uranium.
''While, India's total installed capcity of nuclear power is 4020 MW, yesterday, all our nuclear power plants together generated only 1,800 MW,'' he said.
''Till three years ago, the nuclear power plants were generating 90 per cent of the installed capacity. Now, they could be able to produce only 45 per cent due to uranium shortage,'' he added.
