Oz couple's $70k legal fight to ensure pet pooch lives the 'high life'!
Melbourne, July 13 : An Australian couple has spent 70,000 dollars on a legal dogfight in a bid to ensure that their pampered pooch, Bernie, continues to live the high life.
For the past three years, Bente and Warren Tutton, Gold Coast, have shared a 4.5 million dollar 38th-floor sub-penthouse with their maltese-shih tzu cross.
Bernie is top dog in the plush Southport apartment overlooking the Broadwater and Gold Coast hinterland.
However, when Pivotal Point's body corporate banned animals last year, the couple decided to fight for Bernie and the rights of pet-owners in the tower.
They unleashed a high-powered legal challenge, hiring a QC to contest the by-law change that made Pivotal Point pet-unfriendly.
"Bernie could be the most expensive dog in the world. But we strongly believe it was the right thing to do. Thank God justice prevailed,'' the Daily Telegraph quoted Tutton, as saying.
The couple also revealed that they were attracted to the Southport apartment complex mainly because Bernie, 7, could move in with them.
"We wouldn't have selected the building if it hadn't been pet-friendly,'' Tutton said.
