Varsity students to run SMS News Service
Chandigarh, July 12 (UNI) Fast emerging as a Centre of Excellence in media education, the Department of Mass Communication of Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa plans to start a News Headlines Service on SMS.
Stating this here today, a University spokesman said that subscribers of this free service would get news updates in the form of latest headlines twice or thrice everyday on their cell phones.
A proposal to this effect submitted by the department has been approved by Vice Chancellor K C Bhardwaj. This service had already been started on trial basis for a select group of subscribers and it would soon be formally launched .
He said the free News Headlines Service named as "Samachaar" would be run and managed by the students of Mass Communication under the supervision of their teachers.
Two or three SMS news bulletins would be broadcast on the cell phones on the subscribers of this service everyday as per a fixed schedule. These bulletins would contain local, regional, national as well as international news.
The service would be open to all and anybody could subscribe to this service by sending a message 'JOIN SAMACHAAR' to 567678 from his or her mobile number.
He said this service would on one hand keep its subscribers updated about the current affairs and on the other the students running this service would be trained in handling of the latest news.
