'Centre committed to strengthening human capability in Northeast'
Thiruvananthapuram, July 12 (UNI) Union Panchayati Raj Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar today said the Centre was committed to strengthening the human capability in North-Eastern region.
Inaugurating the Education Grid between the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) and the Nagaland University here, he said an IIIT would be set up in Dimapur in the near future.
He said the launching of the education grid, the first-of-its-kind in the country, was indeed a path-breaking initiative to provide the best in education to the people of Nagaland.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who was the chief guest of of the function held at Techno Park here, recalled the contribution of Keralites working in Nagaland.
The education grid was sure to benefit thousands of students in Nagaland, he added.
Developed by RailTel Corporation of India Ltd, under the Ministry of Railways, the Education Grid between Kerala and Nagaland covered a distance of 3,800 km. The project was visualised and completed in record time of four months.
Kerala Education Minister M A Baby and other eminent personalities from the fields of information technology and education participated in the function.
