UPA Govt. to seek trust vote on July 22
New Delhi, July 11 : The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government will face the trust vote in the Lok Sabha on July 22.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vyalar Ravi said a decision to call a special session of the Lok Sabha on July 21-22 was taken at a cabinet meeting today short while ago.
Earlier, the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs met today in the afternoon and discussed the possible dates for the special session of Parliament.
The Congress Working Committee, CWC also met at the residence of Party President Sonia Gandhi this evening and endorsed the Government's decision to seek a confidence vote in the Lok Sabha.
It also supported all steps taken by the Government to take forward the Indo-US Civil Nuclear Deal.
While talking to the media after the meeting, senior party leader, Verrapa Moily said the CWC also expressed its confidence and determination to win the Trust Vote.
He said, in over two-hour long meeting, the members discussed in detail the political scenario in the wake of withdrawal of support from the Government by the Left parties.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said the government stands by its position that it will not operationalise the deal without taking Parliament into confidence.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief and Union Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav said the nuclear deal will facilitate nuclear commerce with 45 countries and it is not US centric.
An hour and half long UPA meeting held at the residence of Prime Minister was attended, among others, by Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, Defence Minister, A K Antony, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar, Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK's) T R Baalu, Mehbooba Mufti of People''s Democratic Party (PDP) and Hemlal Murmu of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
