SRM University observes environment day
Chennai, Jul 11 (UNI) Nearly 13 lakh saplings were plant all over India to commemorate the World Environment Day.
About 1,500 saplings were planted at the SRM University campus in suburban Kattakulathur, in which 650 National Cadet Corps (NCC) students (both boys and girls) from various schools and colleges in Chennai and Kancheepuram districts participated.
University Chancellor T R Pachamuthu launched the programme in the presence of Commander, NCC Group Headquarters, Chennai Col Umar Farook.
It would be a ten-day NCC camp at the University premises where in students would be involved in various activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Pachamuthu said his dream of setting up a shooting range and a massive playground would be ready next year.
The University would construct a shooting range with an investment of Rs one crore. Students from the city and districts could make use of the facility and get training in the shooting range.
A playing ground, coming up in a ten acre area, would also be ready next year.
