PMC demands statement on financial crisis

Puducherry, Jul 11 (UNI) Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) founder-President P Kannan today demanded that the administration come out with a statement on the people responsible for the present financial crisis here.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the ministers and parties supporting the Government here, were making statements on financial crisis, leading to the non-implementation of announced schemes.

Mr Kannan said the Centre had always favoured Puducherry, right from its formation, and it is quite strange that suddenly it has plunged into acute financial crisis. It is time for the Government to trace the people, who are responsible for its sorry state of affairs, he added.

Alleging that the Central and State Governments has failed to take corrective measures to combat the price rise, he said the PMC would organise a rally here on July 19 to condemn the State government for the price rise.

On the issue of admissions to professional colleges here, Mr Kannan said when the seat sharing ratio for the engineering colleges were finalised at 50:50, there was no reason for keeping it in abeyance for medical colleges. Perhaps, it involves a lot of money and that is why it could not be finalised immediately, he added. Alleging that the Government had wasted public money, the PMC leader said a Transport Nagar was set up at Mettuppalayam with Rs several crore. However, not even a single vehicle was found in the area and instead the Government opened a PAPSCO arrack shop over there and this amounts to anti-people and anti-labourer attitude on the part of the Government, he added.

Alleging that the law and order situation was deteroriating, he hoped that a senior Superintendent of Police, who assumed office here, would concentrate on maintaining law and order.
