NSL Cotton to take up integrated project

Hyderabad, July 11 (UNI) In order to increase the quality and productivity of cotton further for the economic benefit of lakhs of cotton farmers in the state,the NSL Cotton Corporation (NCC) Private Limited had come up with a proposal to the government to take up integrated cotton development project in the state.

Under this project 38 modern ginning and pressing units at 38 locations in 14 districts would be set up at a cost of Rs 380 crore by tying up 2.5 lakh farmers covering eight lakhs acre, according to a release here.

This proposal was put forth before State Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy by NCC Chairman Prabhakar Rao at a meeting today.

He told the Chief Minister that in the process of integrating the cotton farming, NCC proposed to tie up with the farmers to purchae the produce and support them by arranging supply of credit, insurance, quality inputs and provide technical advisory services which would help in increasing the cotton productivity and ensure profits to the farmers.

The Chief Minister referred the proposal to the officials of the departments concerned and asked them to examine and work out the details.
