Cong walkout in Chhattisgarh Assy

Raipur, July 11 (UNI) The main opposition Congress staged a walkout today in the Chhattisgarh Assembly while demanding the removal of Bastar's District Collector in the wake of tribal 'Gotul' (co-educational dormitory system) culture being ''defamed'' through dissemination of wrong information on a web site.

Raising the matter during Zero Hour, Leader of the Opposition Mahendra Karma said, ''the Collector issued the erroneous information as part of a conspiracy. The tribals were hurt and even staged an agitation for the bureaucrat's removal but the government took no firm action for deleting the information.'' Participating in the discussion, Chief Minister Raman Singh claimed that the matter actually dated back to Congress tenure and the then Collector.

''An official is conducting parleys with public representatives and other members of society there to arrive at a solution. The Opposition should not lend political hues,'' he added.

Dissatisfied by the Chief Minister's statement, the Opposition generated pandemonium and its demand for an immediate discussion was rejected by the Speaker.
