Two killed, five injured in clash in Punjab

Bhatinda, Jul 10 (UNI) Two persons were killed and five others injured in an armed clash in Gheri Bhagi village in the district last night, police sources here today said.

According to the police , clash took place when Santokh Singh of Jassi village alongwith his brother Hardev Singh and five others tried to take possession of a piece of land in Gheri Bhagi village.

They were attacked by Darshan Singh and his supporters, who also used fire arms and sharp edged weapons.

In the clash, Hardev Singh was beaten to death while one of his supporters, Labh Singh was shot dead. The injured included Santokh Singh, Harbans Singh, Baldev Singh, Subhash and Jindi. They were all admitted to the civil hospital in Bhatinda. The injured Santokh Singh told the police that he had gone to cultivate a piece of land in Gheri Bhagi village, which he had purchased an year back from Darshan Singh. He said that they were attacked by Darshan Singh and his supporters, when they were cultivating the land. The police has registered a case against Darshan Singh and his supporters. However no arrest has been made so far.
