Train 'suffers reverses,' passengers panic

Tiruchirapalli, July 10 (UNI) Passengers of the Chennai Egmore-Tuticorin Pearl City Express were in a state of shock when the train started going in the reverse on its own after halting at the Poomkudy Railway Station, near here, today.

According to Railway Police, the diesel engine developed a snag when the train approached the station.

When the driver got down to examine the fault, the train started moving backwards due to the gradient.

The guard immediately informed the Railway Officials who put up logs on the track to stop the train.

Later, the train was brought to the Tiruchirapalli Railway Junction where the snag was set right.

The train continued its journey after a two-hour delay. Following the incident, all South-bound trains, including the Chennai-Madurai Pandiyan Superfast Express were delayed for more than an hour.
