Three get ten-year imprisonment in forced abortion case
Moga, Jul 10 (UNI) A local court has sentenced three people including the father of a girl, who was forced to undergo abortion which later led to her death, to ten years imprisonment.
While pronouncing the judgement, Additional Sessions Judge B S Sandhu convicted and sentenced victim's father, Amar Singh, Gurdev Singh and midwife Balbir Kaur to ten years RI and imposed a fine of Rs 1700 each.
However, two others, nurse Gurmeet Kaur and Pawandeep Singh were acquitted of all charges as the prosecution failed to establish its case against both of them.
According to the prosecution, in 2004 the girl developed illict relationship with Pawandeep Singh and later she became pregnant. When her father, Amar Singh became aware of her pregnancy, he in connivance with other accused, including Pawandeep, got the abortion of his daughter done without her consent.
As the abortion took place in the 6th or 7th month of pregnancy, it proved fatal and the girl died.
The police after conducting an inquiry registered a case under sections 376, 312 to 316, 304 and 201 of the IPC at Badhni Kalan police on Novemeber 3, 2004 against five people, including the three who were convicted and the two who were acquitted.
