Mumbai, July 10 : The Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission Dr. Anil Kakodkar has urged the country to give the go ahead for the Indo-US civil nuclear deal.

Stressing the benefits of the nuclear deal, Kakodkar said it was important for the government to push the deal forward.

"I have always maintained that when you are negotiating, whether you are negotiating a technological agreement, or are negotiating a commercial agreement, or a business agreement, during the negotiation stage there are always these issues where all our interest are taken care of. We have stood on our ground and all our issues are properly addressed. Now, I think it's important for us that we move forward with this," said Kakodkar.

Government of India gave the draft nuclear safeguards accord with the International Atomic Energy Agency to the IAEA's board of governors for approval, a U.N. watchdog said on Wednesday.

The Government had said that it would clear the agreement with the IAEA Board after going to the Parliament to seek the vote of confidence.

In the wake of Left's announcement of withdrawal of support to the UPA, a short session of the Parliament is likely to be convened to seek a vote of confidence.
