Mild lathicharge to disperse protesting students

Tiruchirapalli, July 10 (UNI) Police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse a large group of students of a private college who turned violent while observing a dharna here today.

Police said when the college commenced for the day, a section of the students abstained from classes and attempted to resort to a road roko agitation on the Tiruchi-Dindigul national highway to protest against the management's refusal to concede their demand to begin the classes early.

Despite repeated requests from polce, the students did not disperse and at one stage it was alleged that the students threw stones at the police.

To prevent the situation from turning worse, police resorted to the lathicharge to disperse the students. Following this, the college management declared a holiday for the day.
