Kishanganj Zila Parishad chairperson and vice-chairperson removed
Kishanganj, Jul 10 (UNI) In a high voltage drama, both chairperson and vice-chairman of the Kishanganj Zilla Parishad (ZP) were unseated through a no-confidence motion here today.
While ZP chief Sweetie Singh was unceremoniously dislodged from the hot seat after all the 17 members present voted in favour of the no-confidence motion, vice-chairman Shakeel Akhtar was dethroned after 14 members carried the no confidence motion through secret ballots.
District Magistrate Farukh Ahmad, who conducted the polls, said Ms Singh walked out of the ZP meeting when the seven-point charter of charges against her was taken up.
She also abstained herself from voting, and took back her resignation letter, which she had sent only yesterday.
Before the voting on the no-confidence motion, members were asked to speak their mind on the seven-point charges, framed by them against the ZP chief, the DM said.
The ZP, which had gone into a limbo following the tabling of the no confidence motion against the chairman and vice-chairman, would now be in the charge of the Chief Executive Officer since both key posts had fallen vacant, the DM told.
The State Election Officer will now be asked to fix the schedule for the election of both chairman and vice-chairman which, according to the Bihar Panchayat Act, will have to be filled within six months, the DM indicated.
