CIJWS landowners put on hold highway blockade
Aizawl, Jul 10 (UNI) The proposed blockade of NH 54 by owners of land occupied by the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School at Vairengte was suspended following negotiations with the Aizawl-based People's Action Committee (PAC).
A source here today said that leaders of the PAC yesterday went to Vairengte to discuss the matter with local village council authority and representatives of the land owners.
As reported earlier, the landowners had set 1800 hrs of July 9 as a deadline for the government to release the delayed compensation, failing which they would launch an economic blockade on the state's sole lifeline.
It was also reported that the Central government was planning to hold consultations on July 29 to reconsider the matter which states forests minister Dr R Lalthangliana is expected to attend.
