Banks in Daxina Kannada clock 17,173 cr biz

Mangalore, Jul 9: The banks in Daxina Kannada in five taluks have achieved a business turnover of Rs 17,173 crores for the year 2007-08 including collection of a deposit or Rs 10,495 crores.

Speaking to newspersons here today Mr K U Shanbhag, DGM, Syndicate Bank, the Lead bank of the district has said that all the banks put together in the district including state-owned Apex Bank have as many 379 branches, He said that the credit deposit ratio (CDR) of the district was stood at 63.6 per cent and collection of deposit was rose by 15.19 per cent while lending by 16.6 per cent.

He said that the banks in the district have disbursed Rs 2427 crores as against the annual. target of Rs 2307 crores, and have crossed the target by over 5 per cent.

He said that the advances to the priority sector was Rs 1711 crores which included lending of Rs 787 crores to agriculture, Rs 212 to small scale industries and Rs 712 crores to other priority areas.

He also said that the banks have completed the process of identification of beneficiaries under debt waiver and debt relief scheme of Government of India. A total number of 20626 small and marginal farmers were benefited to an extent of Rs 5.75 crore under the debt relief scheme, he said.
