Reservation per cent should go up: APBCASS
Kakinada, Jul 9 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Ayikya Sangharsha Samithi (APBCASS) today demanded that the reservation per centage go up from existing 25 per cent to 44 per cent, commensurate to the BC population.
At a press conference here, President of the samithi V J R Naragoni said the government had agreed, in principle, to include 12 castes in the list of BCs and was planning to include 20 more castes. ''This will dilute the very concept of extending benefits through reservations,'' he pointed out.
Inclusion of more number of castes in the list without increasing the reservation per centage would not serve any purpose, he pointed out.
Recalling that the Opposition TDP had already announced 33 per cent seat reservation to BCs, he asked the Congress and other parties to announce more seats to them.
On the reported remarks of Pradesh Congress President, D Srinivas at the recently held OBC meet, that giving tickets to BCs was proving to be an unfruitful exercise as the BC candidates were getting defeated and instead only those having winning chances should be preferred irrespective of caste, Mr Naragoni said such thinking was not proper and BCs should be given their due share.
He expressed confidence that megastar Chiranjeevi would render justice to the BCs by allotting more seats to them in the elections.
