Parents, students unite against fees hike
Nashik, July 9 (UNI) Parents and students here today protested the steep hike of 80 to 120 per cent in their fees by MET College of Engineering this year.
Led by the Forum Against Commercialisation of Education, Nasik District Unit, parents and students gathered at the Hutatma smarak here today.
The institute is owned by state PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal.
They were denied permission to hold demonstration in front of district collectorate.
A memorandum was handed over to Resident Deputy Collector (RDC) Ramesh Kale by the forum, requesting the district administration to convey the feeling of the agitotors to the chief minister.
On the occasion, students carried playcards displaying -- ''MET-Money Earning Trust'' or ''Malamal Education Trust''. They also shouted slogans against the institution. Forum president Shreedhar Deshpande and general secretary prof Milind Wagh addressed the meet.
They also decided to send an e-mail to President Pratibha Patil informing about the matter.
