'Left's decision to withdraw support challenge to securalism'
Kochi, July 9 (UNI) Terming the Left parties' decision to withdraw support to the 50-month-old Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government over the Indo-US Nuclear Deal a challenge to secularism, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Ramesh Chennithala today said the decision would only help 'communal parties' like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the valedictory function of the 'INTUC leadership traning camp' here, Mr Chennithala said '' the Marxist and Left parties would have to pay a huge price in the next Lok Sabha elections for withdrawing support to the UPA Government, which would in turn help the BJP.'' He said the Left parties' decision was 'pauperism' on their part and reminded that the UPA and Left parties came together to keep the BJP away from power at the Centre.
''The decision was a set back to the fight against communalism in the country,'' he noted.
Mr Chennithala stated that the discussions on the nuke deal was initiated by the UPA Government only after consultations with the Left parties.
Alleging the Left parties were blackmailing the UPA Government for the last fours years, Mr Chennithala said the Left was trying to promote China by opposing the beneficial Indo-US Nulcear Deal.
