JD(U) MLA Ramesh Singh Munda gunned down by MCC

Ranchi, Jul 9 (UNI) JD(U) MLA Ramesh Singh Munda, two of his bodyguards and as many children were killed when proscribed Maoist Communist Centre naxalites opened fire on them during a school function at Barihatu in Bundu district today.

The body guards were killed on the spot while Mr Munda, MLA from Tamar constituency, succumbed to his injuries on way to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in the state capital.

police said the sudden maoist attack created panic among the school children. As they ran helter skelter, at least six of them sutained injuries among whom two died later.

The JD(U) legislator was in the hit list of the Maoists and the place where the incident occurred was considered a stronghold of the ultras.

Police spokesperson R K Mullick confirmed the incident adding security was stepped up in the area.

Police said, Mr Munda was attending a school function when the naxalites launched the attack killing two of his bodyguards on the spot.
