Chandigarh, Jul 8 (UNI) As many as 21.26 lakh eligible children in 12 districts of Haryana have been administered polio drops during first two days of the Sub-National Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation round of 2008-09.
Stating this here today, a spokesman for Haryana Health Department said on the first day, i.e. Sunday, 15.68 lakh children were administered polio drops.
On the second day yesterday, a total of 5.58 lakh children were administered polio drops raising the total figure to 21.26 lakh, which is 82 per cent of the target of covering 26 lakh children in three consecutive days.
He said the Sub-National Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation round of 2008-09 was being conducted in 12 districts of Haryana namely Ambala, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mewat, Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, Sonepat and Yamuna Nagar.
Home to home visits by teams were conducted on the second day to administer polio drops to left out children so as to wipe out polio from the state.
There had been only one polio case in the state which was reported from Mewat district during the first half of 2008. The only case reported was in January 2008 and no case had been reported thereafter in the state, the spokesman said.
