Mobile gaming, a burgeoning business in India

Mumbai, Jul 8: E-sports will soon become a reality in IPTV and Direct to Home (DTH) with the availability of computer games through these media.

India games Founder Vishal Gondal told UNI that his company is in talks with various DTH and IPTV providers and within the next few months the operations should start, taking video games to a new medium. Currently, Mobile games are growing speedily, with a monthly download of four million games and the number is expected to touch over 40 million by 2010, taking the potential revenue to over Rs 1200 crore, from the current level of around Rs 160 crore, Mr Gondal said, adding that mobile games downloading is much higher, when compared to music downloads.

He said that the computer games business is currently worth Rs 2,400 crore and the number is expected to grow exponentially over the next few years. The main hurdle according to him is piracy, which is estimated to be around Rs 300 crore annually.

He said India Games recently received a 300 million dollar funding from UTV and Walt Disney. It was producing film theme based games for UTV after the success of games it had developed based on 'Jodha Akbar' and the latest movie 'Love story 2050'. Games based on Shahrukh Khan's show ''panchvee pass'' were also a hit, he added.
