Mauritius PM to start off Int Ramayana Conference
Meerut, Jul 8 (UNI) Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam will inaugurate the 24th International Ramayana Conference on August 9 here.
The three-day conference is being jointly organised under the auspices of the Ramayana Centre established by an Act of Mauritius Parliament and Vishwa Sahitya Sanskriti Sansthan of India which is the initiator of the global series of the Ramayana Conference, chairperson of the International series of the Ramayana Conference Lallan Prasad Vyas today informed.
Eminent Ramayana scholar of Mauritius Rajendra Arun is the Centre's President, Mr Vyas added.
The conference would be attended by Ramayana scholars from over 12 countries, which includes a sizable non-official delegations from India.
Mr Vyas said the theme of the Conference is ''Ramayana for Harmony and Peace.'' The academic session will be held on the topics related to the main theme.
The proposed International event related to the Ramayana is going to take place for the second time after 1990, when the Ramayana Conference, sixth in the international series, was organised in the Indian Ocean island.
Started in 1984, 24 International Ramayana Conferences have so far been organised in 14 countries, including India, US, China, Canada, Thailand, Nepal, Indonesia, South Africa and Surinam.
