Heavy rains, thunderstorm bring relief from sultry weather

New Delhi, Jul 8 (UNI) Heavy rain and thunderstorms today lashed Delhi, plummeting the mercury in the Capital city and bringing some relief for the people of the city from the sultry weather conditions of yesterday.

The short burst of heavy showers, which hit the city this afternoon, brought down the temperature by a few degrees from a minimum of 26.3 degrees Celsius recorded this morning.

The rain and accompanying thundershowers also brought Delhiites some relief from the sultry weather conditions witnessed in the city yesterday and today morning.

A sharp rise in humidity levels, coupled with the appearance of the sun in the sky, yesterday caused a return to sultry weather conditions in Delhi.

The rainy spell is likely to continue in the next few days with weathermen forecasting more rain and thundershowers in the city under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over West Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas which had caused light to medium rains yesterday.

''Morning's upper air cyclonic circulation over West Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas persists and extends upto 3.1 km a.s.l..

Under its influence, fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is likely over West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Haryana and West Madhya Pradesh during next 48 hours,'' the Met office said.

The weather office has forecast rain and thundershowers at many places over West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next two to three days.

The met office have forecast a generally cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with one or two spells of rain and thundershowers.
