BSNL to increase mobile phone connections to 32 lakh in AP
Vijayawada, July 8 (UNI) Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Andhra Pradesh circle Chief General Manager T N Sudhindra Kumar today said mobile phone connections in the state would be increased to 32 lakh from the existing 22.5 lakh during the current fiscal.
Addressing a press conference here, he said about 1,500 towers would be erected in various districts in the state for the purpose.
The company had 2.4 lakh Wireless Local Loop (WLL) connections in the state and an additional two lakh WLL connections would be provided during this fiscal. There were about two lakh broadband connections in the state and another 6.14 lakh connections would be provided this fisccal, covering rural areas.
Mr Kumar said the company was contemplating to expand broadband connections in rural areas having cable pairs. Broadband connections would be provided with 'Y Max' technology in rural areas where there were no cable pairs.
Mobile Main Switching Centres would be set up in Vijayawada, Warangal, Kurnool and Tirupati by December this year. There were six such centres in the state--three in Hyderabad, one each in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Cuddapah, he added.
