Bangladesh resident held for forgery
Kanpur, July 8 (UNI) Police today apprehdended a Bangladesh resident on charges of forgery and cheating in the Philkhana area of the city.
The arrested, identified as Noor Mohammad alias Shohel, used to stole cheques in courier and cash them, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) A K Singh said.
He had opened an account with the HDFC bank here, where he had deposited stolen cheques worth Rs several lakhs.
Noor used to stole cheques with the assistance of a courier and operate various bank accounts on forged signatures, the SSP informed.
Police has seized three stolen cheques worth over Rs one lakh, a forged driving licence and a pan card from his possession.
Noor had arrived on a student visa in India in 2001.
