AITUC urges President to ask Government for proving majority
Kolkata, Jul 8 (UNI) All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) general secretary Gurudas Dasgupta today urged President Pratibha Patil to immediately call a Parliament session and ask the Congress-led UPA Government to seek a vote of confidence.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Dasgupta said, '' After the Left's withdrawal of support to the Government at the Centre, we want that the President call a Parliament session within 15 days for vote of confidence. '' '' The President should ask the Government to seek a vote of confidence within 15 days to prove its majority in Parliament.
Otherwise horse-trading will start and it will be dangerous for the democratic set-up of the country. '' He said on one hand External Affairs Minister and Indo-US Nuke deal Chairman Pranab Mukherjee was calling a UPA-LF coordination committee meeting for discussing the deals here on July ten, while on the other Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was making statement in favour of the deals.
He described the PM statement as undemocratic, anti-people and against the country's tradition.
Mr Dasgupta also said this was the first time that a Prime Minister was making statement about India's internationl matter from foreign soil.
The Left parties would leave it to the people to decide whether the withdrawal of support to the UPA over the Nuke deal was correct, he stated.
