Actor-politician's support to fishermen's struggle

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Jul 8 (UNI) The ongoing struggle by the Rameswaram fishermen received a shot in the arm with the Tamil Actor-turned-Politician Vijayakanth announcing a demonstration in front of the Office of Assistant Director of Fisheries Department, here on July 13, demanding the Centre's intervention into the plight of the fishermen.

Disclosing this to newsmen here today, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) District Secretary Singhai Jinnah said the Party Founder-Leader would take out a rally along with party workers from Rameswaram Taluk Office to the Fisheries Department Office where a dharna would be held.

Fishermen of Rameswaram are on an indefinite strike from Saturday last to protest against the indiscriminate attacks by the Sri Lankan Navy against Indian fishermen and demanding the Union Government's intervention in the issue.
