125 killed and disappared during NC rule in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jul 8 (UNI) Highest number of 125 people were killed or had disappeared in custody during the six-year rule of the National Conference (NC) from 1996, while there was not a single such incident this year, official records claim here.
The records said during the 1996 to 2002, NC rule in the state, a total of 65 people were killed after their arrest and 60 others disappeared after being taken in custody by different security agencies in the state.
It said 2002 witnessed the highest 29 custodial disappearances and custodial death when the NC was voted out of power in the state, followed by 2000 twenty-eight 2001 twenty-three, 1999 seventeen, 1997 sixteen and twelve in 1998.
The records said 35 have disappeared or killed in custody during the three-year coalition rule headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In 2003, fifteen people followed by 12 in 2004 and eight in 2005 people have been killed or disappeared after their arrest.
However, after taking over the Chief ministership by the Ghulam Nabi Azad, there was a sharp decline and number of these deaths and disappearance was just 14--ten in 2006 and four in 2007--.
No custodial death or disappearance has taken place this year, it said.
