Prohibitory orders clamped in MP town

Bhopal, Jul 7: Prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC have been clamped near the temporary jail in Dewas district where senior Congress leaders, including party general secretary Digvijay Singh, Madhya Pradesh Congress president Suresh Pachouri and Union Minister V Narayan Sami, were lodged last night for insisting to visit violence-affected areas.

Police had to lob tear gas shells and fire rubber bullets to control the mob following the Congress leaders. However, no one was injured during the incident.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Jamuna Devi and other Congress leaders arrested in the state capital have been released. They were arrested yesterday for staging 'dharna' outside the Chief Minister's residence.

Yesterday, the Congress leaders were arrested at the airport here for insisting to visit violence-affected areas and sent to Ashta in Sehore district.

Police had earlier unsuccessfully attempted to convince the Congress leaders against visiting violence-torn areas when they arrived yesterday morning. Mr Pachouri sat on a 'dharna' on the airport, while local party workers created a ruckus and shouted slogans. Later, they were detained.
