Monsoon session of M P Assembly begins
Bhopal, July 7(UNI) The brief five-day monsoon session of Madhya Pradesh Assembly began here today.
Probably this may be the last session of the present house as Assembly elections are scheduled this year end.
The sitting began with traditional rendering of 'Vande Mataram'.
From the beginning itself, the standoff between the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government and the Congress-led opposition was evident with the opposition members adamant not to have a smooth run of the house and disrupted the proceedings by raising slogans from the well of the house.
They demanded immediate debate on their adjournment notice on communal riots in Indore and other places in the state during the BJP-sponsored Bharat Bandh on July 3 and detention of Congress leaders including former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh at Indore yesterday.
Leader of opposition Jamuna Devi also sought suspension of Bhopal's Collector and Superintendent of Police for 'maltreatment' meted out to her while staging dharna in front of Chief Minister's residence here yesterday to protest detention of Congress leaders at Indore.
The first supplementary budget for current fiscal 2008-09 is scheduled to be presented tomorrow. Twelve bills mostly for amendment of existing legislations were also presented on the first day itself.
Speaker Ishwardas Rohani rushed through the day's official business in 20 minutes and adjourned the sitting for the day.
