K'taka plans overall development of Chamundi Betta

Bangalore, Jul 7 (UNI) Karnataka Muzrai Minister Krishnaiah Chetty today said the state government plans to develop the Chamundi Betta in Mysore at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the Chamundi Betta would be decalred as a notified area to curb encroachment of the land around the Hills.

He said the government would construct guest houses, gardens and parking areas to maintain the religious atmosphere in the area.

To a question, he said there was a lot of opposition against launching of ropeway at the Hills as it would help to promote only tourism leading to environmental imbalance.

Mr Chetty, who is also holding the Housing portfolio, said the department had aimed to construct two lakh houses this year and 15 lakh in the next five years under differant categories.
