HC approves Rs 125/quintal for sugarcane

Lucknow, Jul 7 (UNI) Coming as a major relief for sugarcane farmers, Division Bench of the Allahabad High Court today dismissed a petition challenging the Uttar Pradesh government's stand of fixing Rs 125/qunital as sugarcane price and ordered the Mill owners to ensure the clearance of the farmers' dues within the next two months.

In 2007-08, the state government had fixed Rs 125/qunital as Minimum Support Price (MSP) of the sugarcane, but later the Mill owners filed writ petitions in the Court against the government's decision.

Hearing these petitions, the HC had earlier approved Rs 110/qunital as interim relief to the farmers.

However, the Court today finally justified the UP government's proposed price of Rs 125/quintal.
