Atrocities on women up alarmingly: Minister
Thiruvananthapuram, July 7 (UNI) Atrocities, including sexual and dowry harassment against women were increasing at an alarming rate in Kerala, State Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told the State Assembly today.
In a written reply to Mr Roshi Augustine and others, he said as many as 15,985 women harassment cases, including 6,502 dowry cases, were registered after the Left Democratic Front Government came to power.
Mr Balakrishnan said the police registered 1,092 rape cases, which included five cases of girls below five years and 229 cases of girls aged between five and 15.
The maximum number of rape cases (768) involved girls aged between 16 and 35, he said and adding three cases of sex racket exploiting minor girls were bust.
