Two killed in mudslide at construction site in Kochi

Kochi, Jul 6: A labourer from north India and a pipe fitter from Kerala were killed in a mudslide at a construction site at Edachira under the Thrikkakara police station limits here today.

The names and other details of the deceased were yet to be ascertained. One more north Indian labourer was rescued by people in the nearby area, police told the sources.

The accident took place about 0930 hrs when some drainage work was being carried out at the worksite of Olive Constructions. Mud piled up to a height of nearly 15 ft suddenly collapsed at the site leading to the deaths.

A crane operator at the site was also inside the crane, but he escaped unhurt, police said.

The bodies were taken to the Ernakulam General Hospital for post-mortem, police added.
