TN CM sanctions Rs 1.31 cr for Kamaraj's b'day celebrations

Chennai, Jul 6: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi sanctioned a sum of Rs 1.31 crore for celebrating the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister K Kamaraj on July 15.

An official release here said the DMK Government, after assuming charge in 2006, had declared July 15 as the 'Education Development Day.' The government had also announced that the day would be celebrated in a grand manner with school children attired in new dress and paying rich tributes to a decorated portrait of the leader.

Over the last two years, the day had been celebrated with much fanfare across schools in the state.

For this year, Mr Karunanidhi announced a government grant of Rs 1.07 crore and Rs 24 lakh from the Parent Teachers Association funds to celebrate the day in a grand manner, the release added.
