Kancheepuram, July 6 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi(PMK) Kancheepuram District unit headed by the party's Thirukachur MLA K Arumugam, here today observed a fast by condemning the arrest of its former MLA and Vanniar Sangam President J Guru on 'attempt to murder' charge by the Tamil Nadu Government, based on a complaint lodged by Gunasekaran, an AIADMK member from his locality, alleging that Mr Guru and his aides had attacked him on April 30.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Arumugam alleged that the police had arrested Mr Guru yesterday from his resident in Kaduvetti village in Ariyalur in the wee hours by slapping a false case on him and accused the DMK Government of political vendetta. PMK would not get scared of false cases and illegal imprisonment against Mr Guru and other party members, he added.
He said the PMK would express its condemnation peacefully. The DMK is scared of the party's growing popularity, he added.
He said the astonishing aspect of the episode was that Mr Guru had been described as an absconding accused in the records when he was produced before the magistrate, but on the contrary he was very much in his village, attending party and private functions all these days.
The MLA said it is quite strange that Mr Guru was originally charged with bailable offences in the case, but was later charged with 'attempt to murder', a non-bailable offence.
Mr Arumugam warned the DMK that his party would teach a lesson to Mr Karunanidhi and his men, if they further indulge in nefarious designs.
It may be recalled that Mr Guru's inflammatory speeches and his alleged death threat to some DMK leaders, including the Union Communications and Information Technology Minister A Raja, was cited as a reason by the DMK to snap its ties with PMK last month.
