TTM threatens fast on toddy tapping issue

Tiruchirapalli, Jul 5 (UNI) Members of the Tamil Nadu Toddy Movement (TTM) will observe a day's fast on September 16 at Chennai to draw the State Government's attention to granting permission for toddy tapping from coconut and palmyra trees.

Addressing the press here today, TTM State Coordinator S Nallasamy said if the Tamil Nadu Government did not grant permission on or before September 16, the same day the TTM would announce a date for a state-wide stir during which they would start tapping toddy from the trees.

He said except for Tamil Nadu nowhere in the world there was a ban on toddy tapping.

Tamil Nadu Government was encouraging Indian Made Foreign Liquor for its own gains playing with human health.

While IMFL was fully hazardous to health, toddy improved health, he claimed.
